IMA Schelling victim of a hacker attack
The machine builder IMA Schelling in Schwarzach has fallen victim to a hacker attack. IT experts hold been working on restarting the systems for more than a week. For security reasons, the net had to live cut.

We reacted as quickly as possible and took the systems off the network and slice them off from the Internet, says Maximilian Lehner, Managing director of IMA Schelling. Of course, this affects some areas especially communication with the outside world is severely restricted.
In addition to the procedure in Schwarzach, a branch in L�bbecke, Germany, is also affected. That's a total of 1,800 employees - 400 of them in Schwarzach. You now have to reduce the extra hours you experience accrued or your remaining vacation days because some of your employees are unable to work.
Money claim was not opened
The motivation is not known to the management, a money claim was not even opened, says Lehner. However, the management cannot say how long it will have until all systems are up and running again. However, IT is working at full speed, some systems are already online again. It is not yet possible to approximation the extent of the economic damage to the company.
The number of hacker attacks is increasing
There were 900 calls to the cyber surety hotline across Austria in 2021, and 600 in 2020. However, the number of unreported hacker attacks is much higher, says Horst Kasper, an expert in info certificate and data protection. Many companies would not want the matter to spell public.
Attack via email
Hacker attacks are usually launched using phishing emails. The greatest goal of a hacker is to encrypt, destroy or manipulate data in tell to then live able to extort a ransom. Hackers are mostly highly professional criminals who work together in organizations.
