The treasure trove of data lays bare how more than 20,000 Uyghurs from just one county – Shufu – were imprisoned or interred in camps between 2017 and 2018 on spurious charges such as growing a beard or failing to whirligig their phone up with credit, under the watchful eye of guards who were ordered to shoot escapees on sight.
